San Ignacio

Hello and good tidings to all. Happy New year also. We are in jeans and longer sleeved shirts today as there has been a cold front moved in. Yesterday it Rained, but today it is sunny and cool. Not sunny enough for shorts or short sleeves. It should be better tomorrow.
We though we would post some pictures of a half day trip we took a couple of days ago. It is a little town called San Ignacio. We had gone there a few days before, but it was raining so hard we decided to come back another day. The day we went to this town, it was a pleasantly cool day, but I guess it rained Cats and Dogs at camp, so our other neighbors told us to please not go to this town again as whenever we go it rains!!! For the sake of peace and tranquilly, we have agreed not to go here again THIS year. (Such kind people we are!!)

This a a picture of going on the road to the town. Here one needs to be careful of livestock. It was pretty cool seeing all these little heifers going down the road towards home.

You will see a better picture of this in a bit, but if you look way to the back on the right side, you will see a giant Jesus blessing this town.

Coming into town, and going out of town, this lovely bridge welcomes you or kicks your ass out.

We really liked the light posts here. These were so pretty and ordinate. No graffiti on them anywhere. Very beautiful, and all over the town, not just in a few places.

We walked up the hill to see the Giant Jesus and this is one of the views of the town. That church (you will see an inside picture in a minute) was built in 1592. Or somewhere around there, as this is about when the town was established. It says so on the bridge top when you come into town. That's nice when they do that as it saves your brain from having to look up any information, and the less my brain has to work, the happier it is. :)

This town has two center plaza's. This is a fountain at one of them. That is Marilyn in the background checking out the roses.

OHHH, LLLOOOOKKKKIIIEEE here, These are REAL LIVE Canadians!! This is Lloyd and his bride Marilyn. They are our neighbors and new found friends. We have traveled quite a few places with them and so enjoy their company. Pancho loves them. He qualifies them as Auntie and Uncle. There a cute couple are they not!!!

This is the inside of the old Church. It is not fancy like some of the churches, but it is plain, simple and beautiful. I do not think this town was a rich as some of the other ones. They knew god loved them even if they did not have the means to do it up in "Holy splendor". Personally, I think that HAS to be a human thing as I don't remember in the bible god requiring gold. Someone can correct me is I am wrong however.

Now this is great. This arrow on the side of this building tells you that this road goes both ways. Two way road here folks!!

This is a two way road.

This one says it is a ONE way road. Now, Notice where this sign is. It is on a building, under a hanging roof over the sidewalk on the main street. There is NO Way we ever would of saw this if we were not walking on the side walk we were on. I did not even see it and Chuck pointed it out to me as I was waiting for Marilyn in the store.

This is me and Pancho on a bench outside the old Church.

Oh, our favorite place to eat in town. This little restaurant serves the BEST bar-b-qued chicken. She season's it with some sort of season before she puts the chicken on the grill. Man, is it good.

Here is the Giant Jesus. Pretty is it not??

I love this building. It is plain yet pretty. Notice the doors up top all have a little pad with iron work around it. One can open the windows for the cool breeze. The doors are the same with the wroth iron works. Inside is an open floor plan with a little courtyard in the middle. It is a private home so we did not ask to go into it, just looked in as we walked by.

So this is the tour of this little town. It was clean, very pretty and the people kept stopping us so we could talk with them. All the teenagers we met in town were so polite. They were very excited when we stopped and talked with them. We told them how lucky they were to speak both Spanish and English and you could see them bust with pride!! If anyone is in this area for a bit, one really should go and visit this town.
So for now, I am signing off and we will post again after new years. We are having a big party here. Maybe someone will get drunk and make a fool of themselves so I can get some good pictures!!!
