Carnaval 2007
from February 14th through the 21st
Carnaval in Cozumel was way fun. Oh, sorry for not posting for so long. There was something going on with the connection between sky and earth so it was a bit touchy for a few day's there. Since I (the wonderful wife) am not the technical person in this family, I can not tell you what was wrong. However, I can say I got to experience lots of colorful language from my sweet hubby and watched him demonstrate lots of control (like not smashing the computer to bits) while he "talked" to the computer. This morning he got up at 3:30 to put the pictures on. Yeah, sort of early don't ya all think?? See how dedicated he is!!!
Ok, back to the Carnaval. It was fun and I was surprised at the family atmosphere. I would of loved for you all to see this in person. These costumes are so beauty-T-ful. The work that went into them is amazing. Besides feathers, glitter and beads, they are heavy.
Tamara and her friend at Carnaval
Juan Diego and his "HO" at the Carnaval. Yes, he knows her or she would not be kissing him.....No Way!
Can you image wearing this for hours marching and prancing down the town?
Watching these tall people was amazing. They almost touched the wires overhead. Ok, not quite, but it sounded good!!
Even little men were into these costumes. Great is he not!!
I have got to tell you all this was one of my favorites. The picture is not doing it justice. There had to be over 200 peacock feathers on this. Being I love peacocks, this got my attention double. When she passed us, she had to stop for a bit and I really got to study this costume. Even the back is plastered with peacock feathers, four different shades of red fluffy feathers and all the seams are double stitched with small feathers around the big ones. Lots and lots of work.
Nice picture Chuck.
I know you all have noticed, but I got to point it out anyway. Notice this costume is so heavy and elaborate that she is pushing it along?? She is stuck to the back of it, and the whole thing is on wheels. She has to take baby steps in it, and she was dancing while she did this also. Over two hours of this, in heels.
This one was very pretty. Gold, silver and sparkly!!
OK, these were the NASTY guys. This is the worse it got when it came to nasty. These guys were showing there butt cheeks (notice the HUGH g-string on the one in white??) Rubbing them self's and doing "Pole" dancing like they were whores. Notice the beers? Everyone of them were drunk. It was so funny. At first I did not realize they were men. I thought they were women from the red light district, but then it was pointed out to me to look closer. Hay, there was a LOT going on and a lot to see...anyone could of made the mistake!!! However, as they got closer, it became apparent they were not women.
Chuck in the hat and John in the back. Notice the guys face's. I think this is when the beer float come by. Not only is it the beer float, it has on there good looking women dancing in little bitty bathing suits. You could even see their butt cheeks. The guys liked that!!
This is our wonderful friend John. He is a happy sort of fella.
Believe it or not, this is Angelica's MOM. yeah, not only is she beautiful, she has the most wonderful personally also. Smart and funny and kind. Loves dogs and has her own little rescue thing going on. Plus, she has food in her car and she feds the street dogs. She is single.
Your truly lifting up one of the guys dress. He thought I wanted to pose for a picture. he he he
This guy was so funny and to make it even better, women were putting dollars in his g-string!!!
Yep, me again. This guy also thought I wanted to pose with a picture, He had a better female body than all of us, so I was exposing the truth.
This was funny. See the guys dressed like women. They would take men from the side lines and jump up and down and yell "woe, woe, woe" as they rubbed against them. It was so funny. The tourist of course loved it, and the people who lived there always get a kick out of it.
Look at this guys custom. What a thing to see. I have to say however, that none of the men walked around in heels with costumes on like the women. They all rode in floats.
This was part of the royal court. It was so nice the way they did this float. The attending people on the sides of the float, and the people in the back were dancing to MaDonnas Vogue song, "Strick a pose". They were all in perfect unison. The customs were great and the whole production was so wonderful. They had probably about 20 attendants in the back, matched pairs of men and women doing the dancing in the back also. It had to be one of the best floats going.
Hay, there is a picture of the girls in the beer float. Only chuck got a picture of them on the last night. The first night they did not have these sashs on there suits.
Great light show with this float. (notice the beer)
Man, that is the closest John and I have ever gotten to each other. Even Juan Diego is going for it!!! Actually, he wanted his ball back.
The hippy van again.
This is the princess float. She (the princess) is on the other side, but these children were just dancing up a storm. It was very nice.
The queen. I dont know why they did not have the king and queen together.
This was great. Real beer he is drinking. He was in a diaper to.
These flames on these customs were great.
Well you all, that is our tour of Carnaval 2007 here in Cozumel. If Chuck can get some pictures posted of the ocean and stuff around here, then maybe next time you can get a gander at the town and area. We leave here next week to head onto Merida and beyond. So until a few days from now. See ya all later. Tell your friends and family you love them cause you might not ever get the chance to one day.
Love to all
Chuck, DeeDee and Pancho.
